(BIVN) – The Hawaiʻi Electric Light Company celebrated 125 years of service on Thursday, with a public event held just outside the company’s original headquarters in Downtown Hilo.
Kalakaua Street next to the Pacific Tsunami Museum was closed as tents were set up, and a series of speakers reminisced about the history of the Hawaiʻi Island power company.
Speakers included Connie Lau (President & CEO of Hawaiian Electric Industries and Chairman of American Savings Bank), Sharon Suzuki (President, Maui County and Hawai’i Island Utilities), Jay Ignacio (President, Hawai’i Electric Light, 2008-2019) and Warren Lee (President, Hawai’i Electric Light, 1991-2008).
