(BIVN) – There was a repeat winner at this year’s Solar System Walk Costume Contest in Waimea.
From the Maunakea Observatories:
The overall winner was Daxson Calvert, whose Whack-A-Mole costume stole the show. Daxson is a repeat winner; he won last year with his candy-powered rocket. The costumes this year set a new bar; the judges created a new category—most scientifically accurate for a keiki whose T-Rex costume included feathers.
Keiki competed in five categories: preschool, elementary, 11+, space, and group with one overall winner. The three-judge panel was comprised of Waimea Elementary School vice principal Megan Minotti, W. M. Keck Observatory’s Director of Operations Rich Matsuda, and astronomy grad student Jessica Stasik, the organizers say.
