(BIVN) – A large community meal, or “langar”, in the Sikh tradition, was again served at the annual Peace Day Parade and Festival in Honoka‘a on Saturday.
According to event organizers:
Community member Ravi Singh introduced the “langar” concept last year, when volunteers served a free, vegetarian lunch to 330 people during the Peace Day Parade. Singh says that community meals are very common in India, where the 65,000 Sikh Temples serve lunch and dinner 365 days a year (about 40 million meal).
The 13th annual Peace Day Parade and Festival joined hundreds of Peace Day events around the world “to spread the concepts of peace, compassion and global interdependence”, organizers say.
We will have more video of the parade and the festivities.
