(BIVN) – The Hawaiʻi County Council Planning Committee on Tuesday will vote on nine nominees, picked by Mayor Harry Kim, to serve on the inaugural Hāmākua Community Development Plan Action Committee.
The Hāmākua CDP, like the other regional CDPs on Hawaiʻi Island, is administered by the Hawaiʻi County Planning Department and guides development in the region.
Mayor Kim has nominated the following individuals to serve on the action committee:
- Susan Forbes – retired Chief Executive Officer of Hawaiʻi Health Information Corporation and former executive with the Kapiʻolani Health Care Systems and Kapiʻolani Medical Center for Women and Children.
- Nicolette CB Hubbard – Loan Originator for V.I.P. Mortgage, Inc.
- Carol R. Ignacio – Government and Community Affairs Management with Blue Zone Project Hawaiʻi and former executive with the statewide Office of Social Ministries.
- Dr. Tawn Isaac Keeney – retired physician and owner of Honoka’ a People’s Theatre.
- Crystal Kua – Senior Consultant and Communications Strategist with Kamehameha Schools.
- Brad R Kurokawa – Principal Landscape Architect for KI Concepts, LLC. and former Deputy Planning Director for the County of Hawaiʻi.
- Jeff McKnight – Senior Certified Solutions Consultant for Bear Communications.
- Robert T. Nishimoto – retired Aquatic Biologist for the State of Hawaiʻi and former Adjunct Professor and Lecturer at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo.
- Rhonda Darling Pollard – Business Analyst for Hawaiʻi Water Service Company located in Waikoloa
“These nominees represent a broad cross-section of the Hamakua community and all of their primary residences are within the area covered by this community development plan,” Kim wrote to the council. “Less than a majority of these applicants are members of the same political party.”
It took roughly ten years, from initial planning to final approval, for the Hāmākua Community Development Plan to be crafted. It was guided by a steering committee and was adopted by the County Council one year ago.
The Hawaiʻi County Council Planning Committee will meet in the Hilo council chambers at 11 a.m. on Tuesday.
