(BIVN) – The search continues Sunday for a man who went missing while swimming in Mahana Bay off Green Sands Beach, just before 6 p.m. on Saturday evening.
Hawaiʻi County Fire rescue teams are searching the South Point coastline for the missing man, said to be in his 20’s.
According to a fire dispatch, rescue crews at the scene:
… conducted a shore line search by foot while C1 did an area and coastal search. At dusk, aerial search ceased; shoreline search continued. After searching the beach and coastal areas, the search was suspended and will resume this morning with HFD and Coast Guard responses.
The cause of the incident is unknown, fire officials say, however a High Surf Advisory was in effect for south-facing shores at the time the swimmer went missing. The advisory has since been upgraded to a High Surf Warning, as a very large south swell will continue through tonight.
