(BIVN) – A High Surf Advisory is in effect for all shores surrounding Hawaiʻi Island this Memorial Day.
The advisory-level surf is associated with a long-period south-southwest swell that filled in through the day Sunday, the National Weather Service in Honolulu stated. Surf will begin to gradually lower tonight through midweek as the swell eases.
Forecasters expect strong breaking waves – 6 to 9 feet in height – and strong currents, making swimming dangerous.
Hawaiʻi County Civil Defense says heed all advice from ocean safety officials and exercise caution.
