UPDATE (Jan. 27) – This Wind Advisory has been extended until 6 p.m. HST on Sunday.
(BIVN) – A Wind Advisory is in effect for the lower Puna district, windward Kaʻū, and Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park from Saturday evening into Sunday morning.
The National Weather Service in Honolulu issued the advisory, reporting east winds will be 25 to 30 mph with localized gusts to around 50 mph.
Motorists, especially those in high profile vehicles, are urged to drive with caution, forecasters say.
“Despite the dry air in place, a few showers are managing to develop, mainly along windward and northern slopes with the northerly flow in place,” an evening National Weather Service discussion explained. “The exception has been over the southeast slopes of the Big Island near Wood Valley and Pahala with accumulations exceeding a quarter of an inch in the past couple of hours this evening.”
The Wind Advisory will be in effect through 6 a.m. HST Sunday.
