(BIVN) – Hawai‘i Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard was at the Emergency Operations Center in Hilo on Friday, as officials respond to the ongoing volcanic eruption that began suddenly in Leilani Estates yesterday.
“Mahalo to the first responders and all jumping into action to support this community,” Gabbard posted to her Facebook page before arriving to Hawai‘i Island.
In 2014, as lava from the June 27th flow threatened Pahoa, Gabbard volunteered for and was called to state active duty by the Hawai‘i Army National Guard to support the emergency response. Now, as the Hawai‘i National Guard mobilizes once again, Gabbard said in an interview with Big Island Video News that she has National Guard duty this weekend. “I don’t know if I’m gonna do it here, or somewhere else,” the Congresswoman added.
