(BIVN) – The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a Flash Flood Watch for Kahoolawe, Kauai, Lanai, Maui, Molokai, Niihau, Oahu and the Big Island through late tonight
“An upper level low combined with enhanced low level moisture will bring the threat of heavy rains and flash flooding,” forecasters say. “Rapidly rising water levels may also occur on area streams and significant flooding may occur in low lying and poor drainage areas.”
Residents in flood-prone areas are advised to be on the alert for possible flooding conditions, Hawaii County Civil Defense said. Motorists are urged to exercise caution while driving. Road closures may occur without notice.
“Remember, if lightning does threaten your area, the safest place to be is indoors,” emergency officials stated.
