(BIVN) – A Flood Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service in Honolulu for parts of Hawai‘i Island until 7 p.m. HST.
At 4:48 p.m. “radar showed most of the heavy showers and thunderstorms in the Puna District moving south and southeast across Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and Kalapana,” forecasters reported. “Rain rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour persist in the heaviest showers.”
Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to Volcano, Glenwood, Pahoa, Mountain View, Hawaiian Acres and Orchidlands Estates.
“Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding. Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action,” the National Weather Service says. “Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on foot. Turn around, don`t drown.”
