(BIVN) – The top volcano story of 2017 began on New Year’s Day, when a huge delta collapse at the Kamokuna Ocean entry resulted in a spectacle the captivated the world.
After several acres of cliff suddenly fell into the Pacific, the lava flow that had been entering the sea was altered.
First spotted by local boat tours, the impressive, new lava falls that developed soon went viral.
Dubbed the lava fire hose, the activity attracted widespread attention, and even mystified scientists to a degree.
The firehose eventually tapered off … and by December, the ocean entry itself was no longer active.
