(BIVN) – A body was found on the shore fronting the sea cliffs off the Wainaku Executive Center on Friday.
Ed Olson, the owner of the property, and employee Tammy Spaar, said two kids who were down at the fishing point reported finding the body. Police and fire rescue crews responded.
The body has not been identified by officials.
Just a few days before, the search for a missing man who was swept away by the Wailuku River was called off.
Gladys and George Novinger, of Spring Valley, California, were lost on the river near Rainbow Falls on November 25. Gladys was found, unresponsive, in the Wailuku that same day. She later died at Hilo Medical Center. Rescue crews continued their search for George by helicopter, by foot and using dive teams, for a few days after to no avail.
The Wailuku River flows into Hilo Bay just south of the Wainaku Center area.
