(BIVN) – The Hawaii County Council on November 2 voted to accept the donation of a tactical rifle for use by the police department’s Special Response Team.
From Resolution 376-17:
AUTHORIZES THE ACCEPTANCE OF A DONATION OF A TACTICAL RIFLE FOR USE BY THE HAWAI‘I COUNTY POLICE DEPARTMENT
Donated by Donald H. Wilson with an estimated value of $7,500, this donation would be used by the department’s Special Response Team.
According to the documents, Wilson is a former US Secret Service Special Agent. The rifle is in new condition and comes with a scope, case and ammunition, police say. “The rifle is of the caliber .300 win mag which is of a higher caliber then the rifles currently employed by the Special Response Team,” the police stated on the communication. “The more powerful rifle would be a good counter sniper rifle as the caliber we currently use is the type very popular with the civilian rifle industry and would give the Special Response Team an advantage in an active shooter/Sniper incident.”
