(BIVN) – The Department of Hawaiian Home met with the community in Honomū Gym on Monday evening, to talk about a plan to create a the first-of-its-kind, Subsistence Agriculture Homestead Lease on 766 acres of land above town.
The consultation is a first step. Some residents have concerns about the impacts the project might have on their way of life in the small, plantation village.
DHHL has invited the first 500 beneficiaries on the Hawai‘i Island agriculture wait list to participate in the process of developing a conceptual plan for the Honomū lands.
