(BIVN) – Hawaii Island is looking forward to the return of the Hōkūleʻa voyaging canoe now that the Malama Honua worldwide voyage has concluded.
The entire state celebrated the return of Hōkūleʻa in June.
Now, the Polynesian Voyaging Society will embark on a Mahalo Hawaii tour to all the islands.
Although the official dates for the Hawaii Island stop are not yet known, the Hawaii County Council is providing contingency relief funds to help the cause.
“Sometime soon, I cannot give you an exact date,” said Hōkūleʻa crew member Kalani Kahalioumi. “The longer we wait, the longer we can have the canoe.”
The funds will be used to transport island kids to the Mahalo Hawaii events.
