STORY SUMMARY

HILO, Hawaii - The appointment of Deanna Sako was given a positive recommendation at the council finance committee meeting on October 3.

(BIVN) – The former county finance director is about to take the helm of the department once again.

The appointment of Deanna Sako was given a positive recommendation at the council finance committee meeting on October 3. Sako served as finance director under the Kenoi administration, but took a deputy director position when Mayor Harry Kim took office in December.

Sako is taking over the job following the sudden resignation of the previous director, Collins Tomei.

“You know, people don’t realize how complex it is,” Mayor Kim said Tomei told him when the finance director stepped down. “He thought it was best for the county, best for the department, for the staff, and naturally for himself, also.”

Without hesitation, Kim said Tomei told him he thought Sako was the best the person for the job.

“I’m just happy to be able to continue to the serve the people of the county,” Sako told the council.
