(BIVN) – A benefit for the Hawai’i Wildlife Management Organization will feature community firefighters “showing off their best firehouse chili recipe” on Saturday in Waimea, organizers say, during the first ever Firefighter Chili Cook-Off for Wildfire Prevention.
The event will be held from 4:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the Red Barn in Waimea, behind the soccer fields and arena at Parker Ranch.
Celebrity chef Chef Sam Choy will be the guest judge for the event, which will feature chili tasting, beverages, music, a silent auction and prizes.
The town of Waimea certainly knows the importance of wildfire prevention. As recently as July 7, the Pu’ukapu Farm Lots were scorched by a fast-moving blaze.
Tickets are $40 and include dinner, drinks, and dessert. Kids under 10 are free. There will be a $10 discount on tickets for Fire and Emergency Personnel and families. Proceeds support HWMO programs to prevent wildfires.
