(BIVN) – The effort to create a permanent skate park in Hilo was taken up by the Hawaii County Council Public Works and Parks and Recreation Committee on Tuesday.
Hilo councilmember Sue Lee Loy brought forward a resolution urging the administration to make the long planned skate park a reality.
The measure, which received lots of support from skaters and their families during public testimony, follows a series of setbacks for Hilo’s Skateplaza Coalition.
Hilo councilman Aaron Chung voted in favor of the resolution, but first he wanted to give some background on the situation.
The resolution next will go before the full council in a few weeks.
