(BIVN) – Ka’u is remembering its life-long resident, Bobby Gomes, who passed away on July 1st.
A funeral for the retired community policing officer was held in Na’alehu on July 29, the Ka’u Calendar reports, and Gomes was honored by fellow police officers who converged on the Ka’u Police Station for a last call in his name.
Gomes was a beloved figure in the community and he always treasured the district’s rich history.
In his final years Gomes served as kahu, blessing important projects like the Ka’u Gym.
Gomes was honored by the Hawaii County Council for his lifetime of service in 2016.
