PAHOA, Hawaii – Parks and Recreation Director Clayton Honma addressed the crowd at the grand opening celebration of the new Pahoa District Park on Saturday.
Honma talked about the extraordinary challenges the $22 million project faced. Ground was broken in July 2014, but work was halted in September 2014 due to the threat of the lava flow. The project resumed in April 2015 and opened to the community this weekend.
Honma gave Mayor Billy Kenoi the credit for holding the vision and making the hard decisions that made the park a reality.
