HILO, Hawaii – Flooding from excess rain generated by passing Tropical Storm Madeline forced the closure of Kamehameha Avenue in Hilo on Wednesday.
Our camera arrived to see the Bayfront soccer fields by Kamehameha Ave. under water, which is not an unusual sight when there is heavy rain.
However, the amount of runoff was more than the channels leading under Pauahi Street and into Waiakea Pond by Wailoa State Park could handle.
As we were filming, the water slowly crept onto Pauahi and within 10 mintues the street was no longer passable to vehicles.
Flooding also closed East Kawailani Street and Lihiwai Street by Liliuokalani Gardens. All roads are open today.
