HILO, Hawaii – Harry Kim takes a big, early lead in the race for Hawaii County Mayor, earning just under 50% of the Big Island vote.
On the first print-out of the election results, Kim had 9,952 votes, or 48.6%.
Wally Lau is in second with 5,243 votes, about 25.5%.
We caught up with Wally Lau at the ILWU on Lanikaula Street in Hilo. Lau remains optimistic, as he prepares to head back over the Saddle Road in order to finish the primary night at his West Hawaii campaign headquarters.
Pete Hoffmann is in third place with 2,268 votes, or 11.1%.
Marlene Hapai is in forth place with 1,257 votes, or 6.1%.
