HILO, Hawaii – The Hilo-based Merahi Productions put on a thrilling performance at the Hilo Civic on Sunday during the 2016 Tahiti Fete, part of an international dance competition.
The vahine and tane told the story of tempestuous relationship between Pele and Poliahu. Pele, who is embodied by the lava flows of Kilauea, challenges Poliahu, seen in the snows atop Mauna Kea, in the sport of holua sledding. When Pele loses to Poliahu repeatedly, Pele becomes angry and engages in battle on the slopes of Mauna a Wakea.
The ra’atira of Merahi Productions is Tiffany Dela Cruz.
Big Island Video News will have more from this two day event, including an interview with event producer Pua Tokumoto and daughter Heidi Dehnel.
