HILO, Hawaii – A reported fight at Moʻoheau Bandstand in Hilo on Thursday evening (May 4 at 7:30 p.m.) sent a 49-year-old man to the hospital, and landed another man in police custody.
Police say that the suspect, 48-year-old William Josh Sutton of Hilo, punched another Hilo man several times “causing serious bodily injury.” The victim was taken to Hilo Medical Center and then transferred to The Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu, where police say he remains in stable condition.
Sutton was arrested at the scene and taken to the Hilo police cellblock while detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section continued the investigation. On Friday, Sutton was charged with first-degree assault.
Sutton remains at the cellblock pending his initial court appearance scheduled for Monday (May 9). His bail was set a $5,000. He was also charged with contempt of court, with additional bail at $450.
