HONOLULU – It was an emotional Senate Floor Session on Wednesday, January 27, as lawmakers remembered the late Senator Gil Kahele.
It was Lā ‘Elima – the fifth day of the 2016 legislative session – when the elected officials and the Kahele ohana gathered to reflect on the Hilo state senator who died peacefully the day before at Queens Medical Center at the age of 73.
Kahele’s son, Kaiali’i, read a passage written by Gen. Douglace MacArthur and Roth Puahala chanted an ‘oli. Senators Brickwood Galuteria, Clarence Nishihara, Sam Slom, Kalani English, and senate president Ronald Kouchi shared touching stories about the late senator.
There will be an “An Evening of Aloha” held this evening – Monday, February 8th – at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium in Hilo. Afternoon Visitation begins at 4 p.m. and the Official Program begins at 5 p.m.
