UPDATE (Jan. 21 at 7:20 a.m.) – The Hawai’i Police Department reports that the Palama Nui access road is now open. It was previously closed due to a brush fire.
KONA, Hawaii – A brushfire burned over 200 acres near the Hawai‘i Community College – Pālamanui campus on Wednesday, as the Hawaii Police Department closed the access road from Ane Keohokalole Highway to Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway.
Drone video captured by Kurt Chambers on Wednesday evening shows the proximity of the blaze to homes located mauka (video above from Facebook).
Hawaii County Fire Battalion Chief Gerald Kosaki says the fire fight will go on all night. No structures were threatened as of 6 p.m. Wednesday evening. Two choppers and multiple pieces of equipment were on scene.
