SOUTH KONA, Hawaii – Honaunau farmer and resident Linnea Feldman describes life within Hawaii Island’s officially identified hotspot for “locally-acquired” dengue fever. Feldman herself believes she might have the sickness and is at this moment a probable case, awaiting confirmation. Feldman talks about how her surrounding neighbors were the first to fall ill, before dengue was of public concern. She now sleeps inside a tent inside her house as a precaution, and is considering moving back to New York until the outbreak blows over.
