HILO, Hawaii – It was another wet weekend on Hawaii Island. Tropical storm Niala passed us by to the south leaving a lot of excess moisture over an already rain-soaked island. But the rain cleared away on Saturday evening for the KWXX Ho’olaulea. It was a lucky break for the organizers of Downtown Hilo’s biggest annual event. It’s been rainy since Friday.
At other times, downpours were heavy and streams were swollen. Rainbow Falls was busy on Saturday afternoon, as crowds gathered to take a look at the raging Wailuku River.
On Monday morning, Kamehemeha Ave was closed to traffic between Ponahawai Street and Pauahi Street due to flooding. Pauahi was also closed to traffic between Kamehemeha Avenue and Aupuni Street due to flooding.
