HAWAIIAN OCEAN VIEW ESTATES – Hawaiʻi County police are investigating a reported case of arson in connection with a fire Wednesday morning in Hawaiian Ocean View Estates.
Firefighters were on the scene when police arrived at a house fire at 6 a.m. and saw this scene on the 92-8800 block of Reef Circle Mauka. Dramatic home video was captured by neighbor Jordan Anger.
“My neighbor lady has lit the house on fire,” Anger says in the video. “She’s been dancing and throwing stuff into the fire, not trying to stop it.”
Police determined that the fire had been set intentionally. Police arrested the occupant, 36-year-old Emily Smith of Ocean View, on suspicion of first-degree arson.
Detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigations Section will continue the investigation.
