LAUPAHOEHOE, Hawaii – The forth and final of the TMT & Maunakea: Common Ground talks was held Tuesday night at the Laupahoehoe Public Charter School cafeteria. The discussions are organized by the Hilo-Hamakua Community Development Corporation in order to “bring more information to the community that it serves (from north of the singing bridge in Hilo to Waipi`o Valley) so that people can make informed decisions about the TMT.”
The final speaker of the night – and the entire series – was astronomer Doug Simons of the Canada France Hawaii Telescope. Simons explained the benefits of astronomy to Hawaii Island, and took the discussion full circle, ending with the “fine tuning” calculated in the cosmological constant.
