LAUPAHOEHOE, Hawaii – The forth and final of the TMT & Maunakea: Common Ground talks was held Tuesday night at the Laupahoehoe Public Charter School cafeteria. The discussions are organized by the Hilo-Hamakua Community Development Corporation in order to “bring more information to the community that it serves (from north of the singing bridge in Hilo to Waipi`o Valley) so that people can make informed decisions about the TMT.”
Starting off the evening was Hanalei “Hank” Fergerstrom who presented the night’s cultural perspective. Fergerstrom has long opposed development on the summit of Mauna Kea. His talk on Tuesday night focused on the Hawaiian Kingdom sovereignty and the sacred mountain.
