STORY SUMMARY

KEAUHOU - Hawaiian monarch honored with hula, music and ho'okupu at the birthstone.

Final event in Lani Kauikeaouli tribute festivities

KEAUHOU – On St. Patrick’s Day in Kona, a crowd gathered at Keauhou Bay to pay special tribute to Kamehameha III, who was born in this very location in 1813.

The Daughters of Hawaii, the Royal Order of Kamehameha, and Kamehameha Schools honored the monarch with hula, music and ho’okupu at the birthstone.

Although it is believed that Kauikeaouli was born in the summer, the king chose to celebrate his birthday on March 17th, likely due to an affinity for the Irish saint. The event was part of a three day celebration honoring the ali’i at the Kona Sheraton Resort.
