- BODY FOUND IN WAIPIO VALLEY: Police are investigating whether a body found in Waipio Valley on Sunday (Nov. 30) is 22-year-old hiker Lindsey Nickerson of Kailua-Kona, who was separated from a tour group of 25 persons Saturday afternoon (Nov. 29). At 2 p.m. Sunday, Fire Department personnel searching for the missing Nickerson reported that they found a female body near the Tea House after locating Nickerson’s belongings near the Hiʻilawe River. A Monday media release said police are attempting to make positive identification of the body. An autopsy has also been ordered to determine the exact cause of death. They do not suspect foul play.
- HAMAKUA’S COUNCILMEMBER SWORN-IN: Valerie Poindexter, the Hawaii County Councilmember serving Hamakua (district 1) took the oath of office to begin her second term on Monday. Poindexter will be the vice chair of the council.
