Hawaii County Civil Defense message – August 18 at 6:30 a.m.
HILO, Hawaii – Hawaii County Civil Defense has issued a Community Assistance Information Update for Monday, August 18.
Efforts continue to be made with the restoration of power and telephone services as well as the clearing of roads and debris. The community is thanked for their patience and understanding and the assistance being provided with these efforts.
Damage assessments are ongoing and FEMA crews are working closely with the local damage assessment teams.
Community assistance centers for the distribution ice will be set up at the following locations and times today:
Ice will be distributed at the following community centers beginning at 12:00 noon:
Nanawale Estates
Kalani Honua Retreat
Area stores and merchants continue to report that ice is available at local stores and residents that are able to access the stores for ice and other needs are encouraged to do so.
County water spigot sites in Puna remain operational and available. Spigot sites include: Mountain View Gym, Kurtistown Ballpark, Kalapana, Nanawale Estates, Keonepoko, Kipuka Farms, and the Kea‘au Transfer Station. Residents are asked to continue to use these sites to meet their drinking water needs.
The All Hands Volunteers organization will be registering volunteers and taking requests for assistance from noon to 4:00pm today at the Pahoa Senior Center.
