HILO, Hawaii – An unexpected interruption of water service to Hilo’s Gilbert Carvalho Park has prompted the county to close the park temporarily and move Monday and Tuesday’s Summer Fun programs to the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium. A media release was issued by the county Department of Parks and Recreation.
Summer Fun programs at Hilo’s Gilbert Carvalho Park will be moved to the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium on Monday, July 7, and Tuesday, July 8, due to a temporary closure of the park.
An interruption in water service prompted the Hawai‘i County Department of Parks and Recreation to cancel all activities at Gilbert Carvalho Park and relocate the keiki Summer Fun program. The Department expects to reopen the park and again offer the Summer Fun program there starting Wednesday, July 9.
Summer Fun programs held at other Hilo venues are not affected by the temporary closure of Gilbert Carvalho Park.
The Department of Parks and Recreation apologizes for any inconveniences caused by the emergency closure and thanks the public for its understanding while water service is being restored.
