MOUNTAIN VIEW, Hawaii – Fire crews battled a structure fire in Mountain View late Thursday night.
The single family residence on 18-1263 Kona Street was fully engulfed in flames when the Hawaii County Fire Department first arrived on the scene at 7:30 p.m.
Although “no nearby water source” was available, fire crews had the blaze under control in about 10 minutes. The fire was out by 8:30 p.m.
Firefighters were able to keep brush approximated 10-20 feet from the home from catching fire. There was also a vehicle 10 feet from the burning structure, and downed power lines.
A fire dispatch says that according to the occupant, who escaped injury, “he was deep frying food when oil caught on fire and spread to structure.” The official cause is still under investigation..
