KEALAKEHE, Hawaii – The 2014 National Education Association Asian and Pacific Islander Caucus Issues Conference was held from March 19th to the 22nd. Most of the time was spent touring the island going to educational and cultural locations, and the group made a stop at Kealakehe Elementary for workshops.
Educators sat down to discuss techniques and challenges in learning, especially as it relates to Asian Pacific Island students.
A presentation was made by Daniel Klein from Honolulu Youth Theatre. The two hour workshop was called “Consider Culture, Focus on the Child” and in it he talked about his work in the Pacific Islands. Klein also did some drama exercises with the teachers.
The stop in Kona was a chance for participants to sit down and talk about what they have learned during their visit.
