HONOLULU, Hawaii – Puna Representative Faye Hanohano has been given an official letter of reprimand.
Speaker of the House Joseph Souki says he has found recent complaints about Hanohano’s conduct to be valid. Recently it was alleged that Hanohano intimidated and lacked respect for student Lewis Jacobs and staff with the Department of Land and Natural Resources during public hearings at the Capitol.
Souki says her conduct was unacceptable and disruptive. The Speaker threatened to strip Hanohano of her committee assignments if future incidents occur.
The reprimand does not take into consideration recent events on the House Floor, where Hanohano again created controversy be speaking only in Hawaiian without offering a translation. However, it is important to note that Hawaiian is an official language in the state of Hawaii.
