PUNA, Hawaii – Hawaii Island lost the woman thought to be its oldest resident last week.
Saramae Landers passed away on February 10 at the age of 107.
Landers often attended Big Island Press Club functions and was a regular participant in parades and local politics. She was remembered by Puna’s State Senator Russell Ruderman on the floor of the senate recently.
According to retired journalist Hugh Clark, Landers “left behind a raft of younger admirers who were charmed by her spirit, her many talents and her sheer will to carry on almost to her 108th birthday.”
