HAWAII ISLAND – Next week a mandatory five day recess begins at the Hawaii State Legislature, at which time elected officials may choose to hold community meetings in their district to update the community on legislation making its way through the Capitol.
So far two Hawaii Island senators have announced gatherings.
Senator Malama Solomon gets things started right away with a meeting in Kona on the 19th, and she will hold five more meetings round her district over the next week.
Senator Malama Solomon has added an additional date to her lineup of legislative meetings next week. The meeting will be held at West Hawaii Civic Center on Wednesday, February 19.
Solomon will hold a series of legislative community meetings on Hawaii Island for residents of the 4th Senatorial District, which includes N. Hilo, Hamakua, Kohala, Waimea, Waikoloa, and N. Kona. The meetings are held for community members to attend and to voice their concerns on issues affecting the district and state and to share their priorities for the legislative session.
The meetings will be held during the legislative session’s mandatory recess. “The original legislative intent of the annual mandatory recess was primarily to enable neighbor island legislators to meet with on island with constituents to discuss priorities and concerns,” said Solomon.

In two weeks, Puna Senator Russell Ruderman will hold two meetings on a Monday and a Tuesday in Pahala and Keaau.
Senator Russell Ruderman, District 2, will be holding two town hall meetings in his home district that spans from Big Island’s Puna to Ka‘u on Monday, February 24, 2014 from 6:00 – 7:30pm at the Pahala Plantation House and on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 from 6:00 – 7:30pm at the Keaau Girl Scout Center.
Town hall meetings in the district’s neighborhoods provide constituents the opportunity to share their thoughts and concerns with the Senator and talk about the current 2014 legislative session.
