HILO, Hawaii – Hilo celebrated Chinese New Year with its 12th annual festival on Saturday.
Firecrackers and the Big Island Shaolin Arts Lion Dance team blessed the bayfront stores, which are looking fresh after a new coat of paint courtesy of the Benjamin Moore Paint What Matters project.
This year, the event returned to Kalakaua Park after being held at the Mo’oheau bandstand last year. There were food and craft vendors, live entertainment, and live martial arts demonstrations.
The event was free to the public and organized by the Hilo Downtown Improvement Association.
