EDEN ROC, Hawaii – The Mountain View man accused of stabbing someone to death in Puna’s Eden Roc subdivision is an alleged child molester who escaped from an Oahu mental hospital four years ago.
34-year-old David True Seal scaled a 14-foot wire mesh fence to escape the Hawaii State Hospital in Kaneohe on Dec. 3, 2009. The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports he was committed to the Kaneohe facility in 2002 after his acquittal by reason of insanity for the kidnapping and sexual assault of an 8-year-old Maui girl. He has been at large ever since.
Now, Seal’s whereabouts are known. He is being held at the Hilo police cellblock on suspicion of second-degree murder while detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations continue the investigation.
The victim of the deadly stabbing was identified as 32-year-old Rory Thompson Wick of Mountain View. Reports say Wick and Seal were neighbors in the Puna-mauka subdivision and high school friends. Both went to Hana High School on Maui.
On Tuesday at 3:20 p.m., police responded to a report of a stabbing on Pilo Street in the Eden Roc subdivision. They arrived to find Wick unresponsive, with multiple stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at 11:11 p.m. later that day at Hilo Medical Center.
