Updated – KONA, Hawaii – Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating a possible drowning Friday (September 27) at Kua Bay.
At approximately 2:12 p.m. Friday, responding officers learned that a woman who had been snorkeling was found floating in waters on the north side of Kua Bay by Rocky Cove. Bystanders had attempted cardio-pulmonary resuscitation. Fire-rescue personnel took over the CPR and took the woman to Kona Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 3:34 p.m.
The woman was identified as 44-year-old Carol Vandermyden of Captain Cook.
Police have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
