PUNA, Hawaii: Check out this radar image of the estimated rainfall over the Big Island, courtesy the National Weather Service Honolulu & Central Pacific Hurricane Center.
It shows the downpour that occurred between 9am on Thursday and 2pm on Sunday.
Those dark red areas indicate between 10 and 12 inches… about a foot of rain, most of which fell off island in the Pacific Ocean. But you can see one of those dark red spots right over Kapoho in Puna.
The image also shows lots of yellow and orange. The orange indicates between 7 and a half and 10 inches of rain, which fell in Panaewa and Keaau. The map shows that – as is the norm here on the Big Island – the east side took a heavy soaking while the west side remained dry.
