HILO, Hawaii: Outspoken Governor Neil Abercrombie shared his views on the opposition to the Thirty Meter Telescope in Hilo on Tuesday.
Governor Abercrombie has had little tolerance for roadblocks to development as of late, especially in light of the recent rebuke of his favored Public Land Development Corporation at the state legislature, which has been moving a bill to repeal the act.
The governor was on hand for the groundbreaking and blessing of a $14 million dollar modern cargo building and light industrial facility at Hilo International Airport.
The State Department of Transportation says once its completed, the 63,000-square foot building will serve the cargo needs of the East Hawaii community, making the work of cargo handling companies and freight forwarders more efficient and convenient.
State Senator Gil Kahele gave full credit to the administration for the project.
In addition to cargo operations, the facility will include office space for agencies that oversee freight activities and the state Department of Agriculture.
The project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
