KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii: A Japanese visitor in Kona apparently drowned in the waters off the Royal Kona Resort on Monday.
The name of the 60 year old victim is being withheld pending notification of his family.
Police officers responded to a report of a possible drowning, where they learned that resort personnel and bystanders had pulled the unconscious male snorkeler from the water and attempted CPR.
The victim was taken to Kona Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police have classified the case as a coroner’s inquest. They have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
