HILO, Hawaii: A race car went out of control at the Hilo Drag Strip on Sunday afternoon, sending one person to the hospital.
Hawaii County Fire and Rescue personnel were called to the drag strip just after 2pm Sunday and found an injured man lying on he ground with apparent head and neck injuries.

The driver of a Lotus Elise competing in a Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) Solo Event at the Hilo Drag Strip lost control of the vehicle and skidded off the track hitting several officials timing the fourth heat of the day.
Bystanders said three or possibly four people were impacted by the out of control car, but only one person was seen being taken to Hilo Medical Center.
The police are continuing to investigate cause of the vehicle going out of control. The names of the by standers or the driver were not immediately released.
