First meeting of the Hawaii Island based task force set
PAHALA, Hawaii: The first meeting of the Hawaii County VOG TASK FORCE will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 29 at the Pahala Community Center, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
House Bill 318, introduced by State Rep. Bob Herkes, established “an interagency task force on vog on the Big Island to discuss the impact of vog and find ways to address these issues.”
After the bill passed the legislature, Governor Neil Abercrombie announced that he would likely veto the bill, since it was duplicative of another state task force on vog.
However, Abercrombie ended up signing Bill 318 into law, agreeing that the task force at the county level is more responsive. Abercrombie said the county task force can address the immediate issues faced by Big Island residents and can bring recommendations to the statewide task force.
