KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii: The second phase of the Queen Kaahumanu Highway Widening project is drawing closer to a start date… The State Department of Transportation will widen 5.2 miles of the existing two-lane highway to a four-lane divided highway from Kealakehe Parkway to the Kona International Airport.
This construction video of Phase One was taken in 2008. This portion of of the $45.9 million project was plagued by delays and pitfalls, as noted by officials during the phase one blessing ceremony.

Phase two has already experienced some delays, due mainly to the finding of new archaeological historic sites within the project area
On Wednesday, October 26, from 6:00 pm-7:30pm, The State DOT will hold a public information meeting for the Queen Kaahumanu Highway Widening project at Kealakehe High School Cafeteria.
Representatives from the State Highways Division, Goodfellow Brothers, Inc. and SSFM International will be presenting details of the construction phase of the project.
