WAIKOLOA, Hawaii: A Talk Story will be held this evening – Friday October 14th at 6:30PM in the Waikoloa Village Community Room… the main topic of discussion will be redistricting.
Every decade, following the U.S. Census, state and local governments put together commissions to redraw political boundaries to fit the shifts in population.
At this time, the Hawaii County Redistricting Commission has approved six potential maps for further public comments. Two of the six plans under consideration split Waikoloa into two districts. One other plan places Waikoloa as a whole community in the North Kona district.
The current councilman of the region, Pete Hoffmann, recently shared his thoughts on the process during a recent public hearing.
Hoffmann cannot run for council next year, thanks to term limits.
